Age-related changes surrounding the eyes (loss of skin elasticity, tone and thinning of the skin) can cause the area below the eye to appear hollow, making you appear tired even when well rested. This cosmetic concern is commonly referred to as ‘tear troughs’.
Tear troughs develop as a result of age-related changes in the area surrounding the eyes. These changes can be exacerbated by specific lifestyle factors such as smoking and excessive sun exposure.
We use a range of dermal fillers specifically for tear trough correction. These include Juvederm Volbella, Restylane, Restylane Perlane/LYFT and Teosyal Redensity 2. After numbing the treatment area with a topical anaesthetic cream, the dermal fillers are injected into the hollow area below the eye until a smooth surface area is achieved.
The procedure is performed using a cannula to minimise bruising and swelling to this delicate facial area. It is normal for the treated area to appear slightly swollen for a few days and there is the possibility of bruising. Typically, clients experience minimal discomfort following the procedure and return to normal activity the following day.
Possible side effects include bruising and swelling in the area of injection. Rare cases of blindness have been reported. At Croydon Cosmetic Clinic we perform most of the tear trough treatments using a microcannula. This minimises the risk of complications.
