The Obagi Blue Peel provides rejuvenating effects by removing surface layers of skin from the face or certain areas of the body. The chemical peel reduces sun damage, uneven texture and colour, wrinkles and acne scars. Developed by a dermatologist, this chemical peel is a medical treatment that must be administered by a physician. The Obagi Blue Peel uses Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) as the active ingredient mixed with the patented Blue Base from Obagi. The blue dye enables the physician to apply the treatment evenly. The Obagi Blue Peel is applied in accordance with the level of damage and the desired level of improvement.
Prior to the procedure
All clients are assessed for their suitability prior to the procedure. If deemed suitable clients will be advised to use the Obagi Nu-Derm skin care system for 6 weeks to 3 months before undergoing an Obagi Blue Peel. This will prepare your skin for the chemical peel treatment and optimise the results.
The treating physician will apply the Obagi Blue peel in multiple layers – specific application will vary depending on individual client needs. Obagi blue peel can be applied on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Most clients experience a mild burning sensation that lasts a few minutes. You may also experience a bluish tint to your skin however this usually washes off in 12 to 24 hours following treatment.
Following the chemical peel procedure, light swelling is common. Within two to three days, the skin will begin to peel and will continue for five to seven days before being followed by a healing phase. We advise our clients to take one week off work following Obagi Blue Peel.
Once the healing phase is complete, there will be a visible improvement in your complexion. The appearance of your skin will continue to improve for the next four to six weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother and healthier looking.
Typically the final results of the treatment will be evident by 6 months following the procedure. It may be necessary to repeat the procedure depending on the degree of improvement required and client’s expectations.
