Sculptra is a cosmetic treatment used to replace lost volume, correct lines and folds and improve facial contours. This injectable treatment is formulated using poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a substance known for its collagen stimulating properties. PLLA is a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material, which over time is naturally absorbed by the body.
Once injected Sculptra® works within the deeper layers of the skin. As the PLLA microparticles in Sculptra are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production thereby restoring facial volume and plumping out wrinkles and folds in the skin.
Typically, two to four treatment sessions (one to two vials per session) administered four to six weeks apart will provide optimal results.
The effects of Sculptra® develop gradually due to the products unique mechanism of action. It typically takes between two to six weeks to experience visible improvement in the treated areas. The results of Sculptra® can last in excess of three years.
Sculptra® can be used to address the following concerns:
Sculptra® is not suitable for tear trough correction (below the eyes) however treatment using Sculptra® in other areas of the face can improve the appearance of tear troughs.
There is minimal downtime following this procedure and complications are rare. The use of a micro cannula to inject Sculptra can help minimise the occurrence of bruising and swelling. Typically, clients can resume normal activity the same day. It is normal for the treated areas to appear slightly swollen for a few days post treatment and mild bruising may occur. Any discomfort can be adequately managed with oral paracetamol.
Complications associated with Sculptra® treatment are rare, however the formation of nodules is a possibility. We always adhere to strict guidelines in preparing and administering Sculptra to keep the risk of this complication to a minimum. In the event of any problems following treatment we provide comprehensive after care to all our clients.
The procedure is performed by Dr Baba, a highly trained and experienced aesthetic doctor who is also a senior trainer for this procedure at London Aesthetic Academy (www.londonaestheticacademy.co.uk)
