Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a substance that’s thought to promote healing when injected. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “factors,” or proteins that support cell growth. PRP is produced by isolating plasma from blood and concentrating it. Injecting PRP into damaged tissues stimulates the growth of new, healthy cells and promotes healing. As a cosmetic procedure PRP treatment can improve skin tone and texture, rejuvenating complexions.
PRP is a versatile treatment that can safely be performed on any part of the body. Common treatment areas include the cheeks, the eye and mouth area, the neck and jaw line, chest, décolletage and hands. It is also considered an effective treatment for scarring and can be used for vaginal rejuvenation, hair loss and to improve hair growth after hair transplant.
Typically, the effects of PRP injection will be visible within 3 weeks following treatment with results continuing to develop for a further 8 months. Results can last up to 18 months.
Our clinic uses Cellenis®, PRP Lab® and RegenLab® PRP systems.
All clients are screened for suitability prior to treatment. The procedure typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes to complete.
The designated treatment area is thoroughly cleansed, and a local anaesthetic cream is applied to help minimise any discomfort. Blood is then taken from the client’s arm and processed to harvest the PRP. The local anaesthetic cream is removed from the treatment area and the area is cleansed again prior to the PRP being injected.
Typically, clients report experiencing only mild feelings of discomfort during the procedure. To help minimise discomfort local anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area 45 minutes prior to the procedure.
The downtime following PRP treatment is minimal. It is normal to experience some swelling and redness for up to a few days post treatment. There is also the possibility of mild bruising however this can be easily concealed with makeup. Regular sun protection using SPF50 is strongly advised.
Because PRP treatment involves the use of a client’s own blood there is a very minimal risk of disease transmission, toxicity or an allergic reaction. Due to PRP being rich in white blood cells (an essential component of our blood that fights infection) the chances of infection following treatment is highly unlikely. This procedure can also be safely performed during pregnancy.
All potential PRP clients are thoroughly screened for treatment suitability. PRP cannot be performed on individuals affected by the following:
The initial number of PRP treatments required varies depending on individual client needs. Most clients benefit from maintenance treatments every one to two years.
The procedure is performed by Dr Baba, a highly trained and experienced aesthetic doctor who is also a senior trainer for this procedure at London Aesthetic Academy (www.londonaestheticacademy.co.uk)
