Chin dimpling occurs over time as a result of chin muscle (mentalis activity) combined with loss of elasticity in the skin. With increased age horizontal and vertical lines as well a dimples can appear in the chin area.
Botox® injections as well as dermal fillers can provide effective results in treating chin dimpling. Botox relaxes the mentalis muscle preventing it from contracting. This prevents the skin on the chin from wrinkling and reducing the appearance of dimples in this area. Dimpling due to acne scarring or volume loss in the chin area can be corrected using dermal filler injection such as Restylane® LYFT, Restylane® Sub-Q and Juvederm® Voluma.
The duration of results varies between individuals. Typically, the effects of Botox last between three to six months.
